How long does delivery take?

In most cases you can expect your order within 5 to 10 working days (Monday to Friday, excluding bank holidays) from the moment you place it. See Shipping Policy for full details.

Do you deliver outside the UK?

We currently deliver to addresses within the United Kingdom only.

Will I get tracking information?

Yes — once your order has been dispatched you will receive a shipping confirmation email with tracking information as soon as it becomes available. You can also track your order on our Track Order page.

Can I change my delivery address after ordering?

Contact us via our Contact Us page. We process orders quickly, so we cannot guarantee changes once an order has been confirmed — but we will always try.

What if I'm not home when my order arrives?

Your courier will leave a card with instructions for redelivery or collection. Most carriers will also attempt a second delivery or leave the parcel with a neighbour if safe to do so.

What if my order has not arrived within the estimated timeframe?

Check your tracking information first. If your order is delayed beyond 10 working days, contact us via our Contact Us page and we will investigate immediately. If we are unable to deliver your order within 30 days, you have the right to cancel and receive a full refund.

Why have I only received part of my order?

If you ordered multiple items, they may be dispatched separately and arrive at different times. Check your dispatch confirmation emails for individual tracking numbers, or visit our Track Order page for the latest updates. If you are concerned about a missing item, contact us via our Contact Us page and we will look into it for you.

Returns & Refunds

How do I start a return?

Contact us via our Contact Us page with your order number and reason for return. We will provide you with return instructions and the return address.

Where do I send my return?

Please contact us before sending any return and we will provide instructions and the return address.

How long do refunds take?

Once we receive and inspect your return, we will notify you of the outcome. Approved refunds are issued to your original payment method within 14 days of us receiving the returned item. Your bank or payment provider may take additional time to process the payment.

What if my item arrived damaged or faulty?

Please contact us immediately via our Contact Us page with your order number and photographs of the issue. Where a fault is confirmed, we will arrange a replacement or full refund and cover return postage costs.

What if I received the wrong item?

If you received the wrong item, please contact us immediately with your order number and a photo of what you received. We will arrange the correct item to be sent and cover all associated costs.

Can I exchange an item for a different one?

We do not offer direct exchanges. If you would like a different item, please return your original order for a refund and place a new order. Browse our full lighting collection to find what you're looking for.

What if I refuse delivery of my order?

Refusing delivery will be treated as a return. Once the item is received back by us and inspected, a refund will be processed in line with our standard refund policy. Return shipping costs may be deducted.

Can I cancel my order?

You have the right to cancel your order within 14 days of receiving it. Please contact us as soon as possible — if your order has not yet been dispatched we may be able to cancel it before it is shipped.

Products & Lighting

Are your lights easy to install?

Yes — the majority of our lights are easy to install. Many are plug-in or rechargeable and require no wiring at all. For mains-wired lights, connecting to an existing fitting can be done in minutes.

Do I need an electrician to install a light?

Not always. Plug-in and rechargeable lights require no installation. For mains-wired lights, replacing an existing fitting is something most homeowners can do — but any new wiring or significant electrical work must be carried out by a qualified electrician.

Are your lights dimmable?

Dimmability varies by product and is specified on each product page. If a light is dimmable, you will also need a compatible dimmer switch — not all dimmer switches work with all bulbs.

What colour temperature should I choose?

Warm white (2700K–3000K) creates a cosy, atmospheric feel — ideal for living rooms, bedrooms and hallways. Cool white (4000K+) is better for task lighting in kitchens and offices. Ultimately the right choice depends on how you use the space and the atmosphere you want to create.

Do your lights come with bulbs?

This varies by product — check the individual product page for bulb information. Where bulbs are not included, we always specify the bulb type required so you know exactly what to buy.

What bulb do I need?

The most common fittings are E27 (large screw), E14 (small screw) and GU10 (twist and lock). Each product page lists the required bulb type, fitting, wattage and any compatibility notes.

What does IP rating mean?

IP (Ingress Protection) rating indicates how well a light is protected against water and dust. For bathrooms, you will need a minimum of IP44 for areas near water sources. The IP rating is listed on every product page — check it meets building regulations for your specific lighting zone.

How do I clean my light fitting?

Always turn off and allow the light to cool completely before cleaning. Wipe with a soft, dry or lightly damp cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners or spraying liquid directly onto the fitting. For glass shades, a mild glass cleaner applied to a cloth works well.

Choosing The Right Light

What is layered lighting?

Layered lighting means combining different light sources — a ceiling light for general illumination, wall lights for atmosphere, and table lamps for task or accent lighting. It gives you control over the mood of a room at different times of day and is the single biggest difference between a room that feels designed and one that just has a ceiling light. Browse our full lighting collection to build your layers.

How do I choose the right wall light?

Start with how you want to use it — ambient atmosphere, focused reading light, or accent on a feature wall. Then consider your wall space — a narrow hallway needs a slim profile, a large living room wall can take something more substantial. Finally, match the finish to something already in the room. Browse our wall lights.

How many wall lights do I need?

This depends on the size of the room and the purpose of the lighting. For a living room, two wall lights flanking a sofa, fireplace or feature wall create a balanced, symmetrical look. For a hallway, space wall lights roughly 180cm to 240cm apart. For a bedroom, bedside wall lights should be positioned at shoulder height when sitting upright in bed — typically 120 to 140cm from the floor. Browse our wall lights.

How do I choose the right table lamp?

Start with the surface it sits on — the lamp should be roughly 1.5 times the height of the surface for the best proportions. Then think about the shade — a diffusing shade creates warmth, a directional shade focuses light for reading. Finally, always pair with a warm white bulb. A table lamp is the fastest and easiest way to transform the feel of any room. Browse our table lamps.

How many table lamps do I need?

There are no strict rules — but a useful starting point is one table lamp per surface that needs light. In a living room, two table lamps on either end of a sofa or sideboard create balance and symmetry. In a bedroom, a table lamp on each bedside table works well — or a single lamp on the side you read from. A table lamp in a dark corner is often the single most effective way to make a room feel warmer and more considered. Browse our table lamps.

Should I choose a wall light or a table lamp for my bedside?

Wall lights free up bedside table space and give a cleaner, more considered look. Table lamps are easier to install, more flexible and easier to move. If your bedside table is small, if you want a minimal look, or if you are ready to commit to a position, wall lights are the better choice. If you rent or prefer flexibility, a table lamp is the practical option. Browse our wall lights and table lamps.

How do I choose the right ceiling light?

Start with your ceiling height — under 2.5m, go flush or semi-flush. Above 2.5m, a pendant works beautifully. Then think about control — a dimmable fitting gives you atmosphere in the evening and practicality during the day, and is almost always worth it. Finally think about scale — a fitting that is too small for the room disappears, one that is too large dominates. Browse our ceiling lights.

What size ceiling light do I need?

A useful rule of thumb: add the length and width of your room in metres, multiply by 100, and the result in centimetres gives you an approximate pendant diameter. For example, a 4m x 4.5m room suits a pendant of roughly 85cm. For flush fittings, scale down — a fitting roughly half that diameter works better close to the ceiling. Browse our ceiling lights.

What finish should I choose for my light?

The easiest rule is to match the finish to one other element already in the room — door handles, taps, curtain poles or furniture legs. Warm metals like brass and gold suit earthy, natural interiors. Cool metals like chrome suit contemporary spaces. Dark finishes like black make a bold statement. Painted finishes — white, colour or contrast — blend in or stand out depending on your wall colour. There are no strict rules — the finish you are drawn to is usually the right one.

About Gloam

Who is Gloam Lighting?

Gloam Lighting is a UK home lighting brand built around one idea — that the right light transforms the way a room feels. We search for wall lights, table lamps and ceiling lights that we'd genuinely want in our own homes, and offer them at prices that make sense. Read more on our About Us page.

Why is the brand called Gloam?

Gloam comes from the Old English word "gloaming" — the moment between day and dark, when the natural light fades and you reach for the lamp. It's when a room stops being just a room and starts feeling like home. When the right light makes all the difference — and you feel it. That's what Gloam is for.

How do you choose your products?

Every piece in our collection is chosen against three criteria: does it transform the room, would we keep it ourselves, and is it worth the price. If a product does not pass all three, it does not make it into our collection.

Where are you based?

Gloam Lighting is a UK brand and a trading name of First Global Business Ltd, registered in England and Wales. The lights in our collection are sourced from factories in Asia to ensure the best value.

How do I contact you?

You can contact us via our Contact Us page. We aim to respond within 24 hours — often much sooner.

Still have a question?
